MeerMeer

Sitepoint.com has the inside scoop on a great new product that Adobe is looking to put out in the next year. Adobe found that the biggest hassle web developers have with building a site or project is cross bwoser and system testing. Anyone who has ever tried to test a site for IE6 knows the pain that one has to go through to even track down a good version of the application, let alone try to pinpoint its bugs and rendering problems. So they have created a program that will allow developers t send local code to the Meermeer servers and instantly receive back rendered screen shots from different browsers and systems. It will support IE6+ and Firefox 2+ on Windows, FF3 and Safari on Mac.

It looks like there is going to be a ton of great features on it. Meermeer will have your standard 1-up and 2-up views (similar to Coda), but it also will allow for what they have termed as an “onion skin” view which allows you to overlay two browsers screen shots on top of each other, then adjust the opacity for each shot so you can pin point the differences.

Adobe says it will be delivered first as a web service and an extension to Dreamweaver. However, that still wont be enough to get me to switch back to DW. It does look like it will be a great product though… hopefully Adobe will deliver everything they promise at this point.
